5 Tips on Sprucing Up Your Store

While your store may not be a candidate for Extreme Home Makeover: just about every store can be improved. The important thing is knowing where to make changes, and what would have the most impact to the appearance and your bottom line. You truly do not have to change everything to make a large impact and upgrade the appearance of your store.

Making some simple changes will appeal to your customers, and will leave pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere and ambiance of your store. You will notice a nice change when it comes to your cash register: with bigger sales!

Spit & Polish. Some stores go to a lot of fuss and muss about making a large number of changes. But sometimes what can really make the difference is a really intense form of “spring cleaning.” Taking an evening, or a weekend day, and give everything a classic “spit & polish” cleaning. This process will leave you and your customers pleased with the overall enhanced look of your store. Take your retail displays apart and clean them thoroughly. Clean the windows. Vacuum and shampoo the rugs. Clean the cash register. Make the counter look clean. Stand back and check – does everything sparkle? When it all sparkles, you will know you are done! Consider calling in a cleaning crew for extra help to get the store in great shape.

Fresh Coat of Paint. Sometimes what makes the store look great is putting on a fresh coat of paint. The inside of the store needs to look bright and cheery at all times. You may even want to go with a different color this time. Studies have shown that people in red or orange colored environments tend to buy more items – so while you would not want to select a lipstick red, maybe a nice salmon or coral color could enhance the selling power of your store. Painting the store is an ideal way to brighten things up and make your store look great.

Move Inventory. If your store is clean – a great way to make the store look fresh and new is to change the placement of your inventory. Change the look of the store every once and awhile. This change of scenery will benefit not only you and your staff, but the customers as well. It will excite the customers and will allow different items to gain some attention. You will be pleased to see customers start to notice other items, other than their usual favorites. Start out with a plan and stay organized when you move your inventory and floor plan.

New Sign. All stores have a sign on the front of their door, or in their window. A great way to spruce up your store is to add a new sign. This new sign will look great and will help your store gain newly added attention. When you decide that it is time to change the sign, you can also think about changing your traditional colors, or your store logo. This is a great way to get your store noticed by new customers who just have not noticed your store before. It will also convert previous shoppers, who may have that been there done that feel, into excited and curious buyers. You will be pleased by the positive reaction.

Music. Studies have shown that customers react positively to upbeat music being played during shopping. They actually purchase more than they expected to. But keep in mind that it needs to be music that they like. So think of what type of music your customers would want to hear – every store is different. A motorcycle shop might be playing hard rock whereas a day spa could be playing classical music. The music should be as specific as the customers are.
